Ethos System Requirements

To ensure a smooth learning experience, all students must meet the following technology requirements before beginning their courses. This guide outlines the devices, software, and setup needed for both daily coursework and assessments.

Core Device & Software

  • Reliable computer: Windows, Mac, or Chromebook (iPads acceptable for younger students)

  • Access to a printer: Needed for assignments 

  • Ability to scan/upload work: Recommended apps include CamScannerGenius Scan, or the iOS Notes app.

Sync Sessions / Zoom

  • Zoom App installed on the student’s device (s).

  • Webcam and microphone: Required for live sessions and interactive activities.

  • Headphones or headset with microphone: Strongly recommended for clear audio and fewer distractions.

Testing & Assessments

  • LockDown Browser installed (compatible with Windows, iPad, Chromebook, and MacBook).

  • Second device required for homeschool students during proctored testing.

  • Pre-test check: Students should confirm LockDown Browser opens and functions before exam day.

Video & Media Requirements

  • Ability to record and upload video presentations (requirements vary by course).

Accounts & Access

  • Student-accessible email (must be able to send/receive from approved domains):

    • *@ethosschool.org

    • *@geniussis.com

    • *@gac.org

  • Whitelisted sites:

    • *.ethosschool.org

    • ethos.geniussis.com

    • Course textbook sites (varies by course)

    • Google Docs / Google Drive

Backup & Support

  • Backup internet option: Hotspot, secondary Wi-Fi, or local library/public access.

  • Parental support or school support for setup: installing apps, printer setup, etc.
